Friday Sports Update (2/6)

Lots of Gator sports, a Gator football recruit still not sure, the Orlando Magic have a new coach and more in our Friday Sports Update…

** A lot of Gator sports in action this weekend including lacrosse and softball opening their seasons.   Both Gator basketball teams and tennis teams are in action as well as is gymnastics.

** Gator football recruit Ce Ce Jefferson still has not faxed in a signed letter of intent to Florida or to any other school for that matter as of early Friday morning.   Jefferson’s father says he does not want him to go to Florida but the option remains open.

** Speaking of Gator football, defensive line coach Terrell Williams had all of about a month’s stay at Florida; he is leaving to take the same spot with the Miami Dolphins.   Sources told ESPN 850 that Texas defensive line coach Chris Rumph would accept an offer to come to Florida but other media outlets say there is a chance he could stay at Texas.

** Former Gator football assistant coach Stan Drayton, who served with Urban Meyer at Ohio State, will now be the running backs coach with the Chicago Bears.

** Former Florida defensive coordinator Jon Hoke will join Steve Spurrier’s defensive staff at South Carolina.   Hoke was not retained as the secondary coach of the Chicago Bears when a new coaching staff was hired.

** Former Gator and NFL head coach Mike Mularkey has joined the Tennessee Titans as tight ends coach and assistant head coach.

** The Orlando Magic fire coach Jacque Vaughn after suffering 10 straight losses.   The team is 15-37.

** In SEC men’s hoops, Auburn downs LSU 81-77 in Baton Rouge.
