** Former University of North Carolina men’s basketball coach Dean Smith passes away at age 83. Former players and coaches from around the country paid their respects to one of the best liked coaches in the game.
** Former PGA golfer Billy Casper dies from a heart attack at the age of 83. Often overshadowed by players of his era like Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer, Casper still held his own on the tour for many years winning three major titles.
** The Florida women’s basketball team plays well at home but nationally ranked Tennessee still wins 64-56. Florida is now below .500 for the season and will play at Georgia Thursday.
** The top ranked Florida softball team starts the season 5-0 after winning all its games this weekend at a tournament in Tampa.
** In the NBA, Chicago nips Orlando 98-97. The Magic play at Washington tonight while Miami hosts New York.
