The Florida Gator softball team is set to travel to Jacksonville Wednesday to face the Jacksonville University Dolphins. The Gators are coming off a terrific weekend at a tournament in which they went 5-0 to start the season.
This match up with Jacksonville will be the seventh consecutive year the two teams have faced each other. Florida head coach Tim Walton says he is trying to focus on the character component of his players going into the start of the season.
“The support of all our players on the bench and on the field was really good. I was very happy. We work so hard on the character component of our team.”
Starting centerfielder for the Gators, Kristi Merrit, says despite the success last weekend at USF, her team is focusing on Jacksonville.
“We are just watching video. We now have I Pads so just watching the pitches, looking back at our at-bats before to see what we did. Seeing what pitches she pitched and just studying.”
After playing the Dolphins Wednesday, Florida will have its home opener this weekend as it hosts a tournament.
