Florida softball opens home slate this weekend

The Florida Gator softball team begins home action this weekend against NC State and Iowa. The number one ranked Gators are 6-o on the season.  Saturday’s games will be the first ever aired on the SEC Network.

The Gators are coming off a 16 to 1 victory against the Jacksonville Dolphins Wednesday night. Florida has outscored their first six opponents 62 to 7.

Some players are already gaining attention for their talent this season; one of them being Kirsti Merrit. She’s already hit three home runs and has 11 runs batted in.  Veteran Lauren Haeger has also had some success so far this season. The pitcher has won three games and only given up four hits.

North Carolina State has opened its season 2-3 but has played good competition, losing to ranked teams in Louisiana-Lafayette and twice to LSU.

Iowa is 3-2 and has suffered losses to Drake and North Dakota State while beating Northern Iowa, Green Bay and Southern Utah.

Sat, Feb 14: UF vs NC State – 1:30 PM

Sat, Feb 14: UF vs Iowa- 4 PM

Sun, Feb 15: UF vs Iowa – 9:30 AM

Sun, Feb 15: UF vs NC State – 12 PM
