The Florida baseball team dominated yet another opponent Wednesday night. The Orange and Blue improve to 4-0 on the season with the win against USF in Tampa by a final of 13 to 3. After dropping what was their home opener Wednesday night, the Bulls are now 2 and 2 on the season.
Florida starter Brett Morales was perfect, literally. Morales dealt an unbelievable six scoreless innings in which he retired all 18 batters. Morales retired seven of the batters via strikeout, a career high for the right-handed sophomore.
Florida head coach Kevin O’Sullivan was more than pleased with the start from Morales.
“That was as good of a start as I’ve seen in quite some time. Brett kept USF hitters off-balance and he was able to mix all of his pitches early in the count. He was really sharp, I was pleased at how he threw. It was hard to take a pitcher out with a perfect game through six. It’s early in the year and you have to look at the big picture. Brett was outstanding.”
Offensively Florida picked up right where it left off over the weekend scoring 13 runs in the game. SEC Player of the Week Harrison Bader went 2 for 3 with three RBIs in the clean up spot. Outfielder Buddy Reed accounted for two runs, two RBI’s, and two hits on the day. However the big story was freshman JJ Schwarz who managed to drive in five runs including his second home run in just three games.
Florida now looks ahead to a three game series against in state rival Miami this weekend. First pitch on Friday is set for 7 pm.
