The San Diego Classic college softball tournament was cut short on Sunday due to inclement weather, preventing the top ranked Florida Gator softball team from facing San Diego State. The Gators did compete in four other games over the weekend, winning all of them by a combined score of 26-1. Florida defeated Oregon 3-0, Cal Poly 6-1, UC Davis 9-0, and San Diego 8-0.
Florida is now 21-0 on the season.
Some notable performances over the weekend include Delanie Gourley’s complete game shutout against the second ranked Oregon Ducks. The sophomore pitcher only allowed four base runners and struck out eight.
Third baseman Taylore Fuller homered twice and drove in five against Cal Poly. She is now tied for second on the team in home runs (5) and runs batted in (18), both behind senior Lauren Haeger.
Freshman Nicole DeWitt only had one hit versus UC Davis, but it was a bases-clearing double that stapled the victory for the Gators.
Pitcher Aleshia Ocasio had herself another complete game shutout, this time against San Diego. The freshman has completed every game she has started, a feat no other pitcher on the roster could exact.
Florida will be back in action against Long Beach State on Wednesday.
