Gator Baseball Blanks Maine
Florida sophomore pitcher Logan Shore threw eight shutout innings and the Gators used a four run second inning to beat Maine 5-0 Friday night in Gainesville. Florida is now 12-2 on the year while Maine falls to 4-10.
Shore (3-0) was outstanding in the game, allowing just five hits while striking out five. He has not given up a run this season.
Florida took advantage of three Maine errors to score their four runs in the second inning. Buddy Reed singled to drive in the first run and Harrison Bader singled to plate the second run. Richie Martin got credit for an RBI when the Maine shortstop booted his ground ball and JJ Schwarz hit a sacrifice fly to plate the final run of the inning.
Freshman Christian Hicks homered to give Florida its final run in the sixth inning but that was more than enough support for Shore.
AJ Puk gets the start on the mound Saturday for Florida; you can hear the game live on ESPN 850 WRUF starting at 3:55 pm.
