The Florida Gator softball team welcomes the Louisiana State Tigers to Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium for a weekend series starting on Friday. Both teams are currently in undefeated seasons, as LSU is 25-0 while the Gators are 27-0. The Gators will open up SEC play when they welcome the Tigers and will face another top 10 squad coming off their spring break road trip.
LSU coach Beth Torina travels back to her alma mater this weekend. Torina (then Dieter) pitched at UF and now coaches one of their greatest rivals. Torina says her team pitching has been solid so far this season.
“Well I think we have a solid pitching staff. All four of our pitchers have contributed this season, all have done a really nice job for us. Our offense is really strong, we have a nice mix of speed and power. I think they have really produced a lot of runs in our games this spring.”
Beth Torina and her Tigers know they challenge they face in this series and says facing UF will be their most competitive match up yet.
“Florida is such a great program, they have so many different weapons as well. They have a great pitching staff, three arms that are really great. So you know they have done so many things and commanded respect from the whole country. We definitely have our work cut out for us. We have to play good defense and have good performances on the mound. I think timely hitting is the key for both teams.”
The Gators and Tigers will play a total of three games this weekend, one each day. You can catch the first game at 6 o’clock Friday night.
