Gator sports, NBA winds down, MLB results and more in our Tuesday Sports Update…
** The Florida softball team is 40-4 after beating Kentucky 2-0 Monday to sweep the series. Next up a home game with USF tomorrow.
** Former Gator men’s basketball assistant coach Anthony Grant is coming back to Florida in the same capacity. Grant, fired at Alabama, will take the spot of Matt McCall, who is moving on to be the head coach at UT Chattanooga.
** Gator baseball plays at FSU today in the rubber game of a three game series. You can hear live coverage on Country 103-7 The Gator starting at 5:55pm. Florida will be without pitchers AJ Puk and Kirby Snead who have been suspended indefinitely after being arrested a couple of days ago.
** Former Gator coach and current Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer gets a contract extension and raise that makes him the second highest paid college coach.
** Former Gator and current Miami Dolphins center Mike Pouncey becomes the NFL’s highest paid center when he signs a five year extension at $52.2 million.
** In the NBA, Miami keeps its playoff hopes alive with a 100-93 win over Orlando. Oklahoma City and New Orleans also win and they remain tied for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
** In baseball, Tampa Bay edges Toronto 2-1 and Atlanta nips Miami 3-2.
