The Florida baseball team runs its record to 36-13 after beating the South Florida Bulls 5-1 Tuesday night in Gainesville, Florida’s final midweek game of the season.
Sophomore Dane Dunning got the start on the mound for Florida and he was good, striking out a career high eight in four innings of work to pick up the win, making him 5-2 on the season. Kirby Snead pitched four innings of scoreless relief and Eric Hanhold pitched a scoreless ninth as well.
Offensively, Buddy Reed drove in Florida’s first run with an RBI double after Harrison Bader led off the inning with a double. Reed would score on a double by JJ Schwarz.
After South Florida scored its only run in the fifth inning, Richie Martin made the score 4-1 with a two run homer in the bottom of the inning and Reed later plated a run with a single.
First baseman Pete Alonso did not play for Florida after he suffered a broken nose during batting practice. However, he is expected to make the trip to Vanderbilt when the Gators face the Commodores in a three game series starting Thursday.
