A former UF baseball coach retires, NBA and NHL playoff results, French Open, MLB action and more in our Tuesday Sports Update…
** Former UF baseball coach Andy Lopez is retiring. He had been coaching at Arizona for the past 14 seasons where he won a national title with the Wildcats. He also won a national championship while coaching Pepperdine.
** Both the Gator softball and baseball teams are preparing for more postseason play. The baseball team hosts a regional this weekend while softball will play Thursday against Tennessee in the College World Series.
** In the NBA, Houston staves off elimination in the Western Conference Final with a 128-115 win over Golden State. In the East, Cleveland can reach the NBA Finals with a win at home tonight against Atlanta.
** In the NHL, Anaheim beats Chicago to go up 3-2 in the Western Conference Final. Tonight, Tampa Bay can reach the NHL Finals with a win at home against the New York Rangers in the East.
** In MLB action, Seattle beat Tampa Bay 4-1 while the LA Dodgers top Atlanta 6-3 and Miami loses 4-2 to Pittsburgh.
** Former Gator football player Ray McDonald was released by the Chicago Bears after he was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence and child endangerment. He had been arrested on similar charges while playing for the San Francisco 49ers.
** The French Open continues today. Women’s 15 seed Venus Williams was beaten but most of the top seeds in men’s and women’s play advanced.
