Friday Sports Update (6/5)

The Gator baseball team starts Super Regional play, Game 1 of the NBA Finals; NHL Finals start again and a horse goes for the Triple Crown in our Friday Sports Update…

** The Florida baseball team hosts Florida State beginning today in a Super Regional in Gainesville; the winner goes to Omaha and the College World Series.

** Several other SEC teams are in Super Regionals as well in Arkansas, LSU, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt.

** Game 1 of the NBA Finals goes to Golden State as they beat Cleveland 108-100 in overtime at Golden State.   Game 2 Sunday.

** American Pharoah tries to become horse racing’s first Triple Crown winner since 1978 when he runs in the Belmont Stakes Saturday in New York.

** Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals tonight in Tampa as the Lightning host Chicago with the Black Hawks up 1-0.

** Tampa Bay is at Seattle this weekend in MLB action.   Atlanta hosts Pittsburgh and Miami is at Colorado.

** In the French Open, Serena Williams advances to the women’s final of the French Open.  She will face 13 seed Lucie Safarova in the final.  Men’s play continues today.

** The University of North Carolina has been hit with five Level 1 sanctions in an ongoing investigation into alleged academic fraud at the school.
