Thursday Sports Update…SEC Media Days, British Open, Open NFL Wallets

The British Open is underway, big money on NFL contracts, MLB resumes and more in our Thursday Sports Update…

** SEC Football Media Days has its final session today in Birmingham, Alabama that will conclude the four day event.

** The British Open is underway with most of golf’s biggest stars on hand to play.   Jordan Spieth comes in red hot and among many is a favorite to win the event.

** Some NFL teams shell out big money to keep established stars.   The Kansas City Chiefs spend $101 million to keep linebacker Justin Houston and Dallas and Denver spent in the $70 million range to keep receivers Dez Bryant and Demaryius Thomas, respectively.

** Major League Baseball resumes it regular season tomorrow after the All Star Break.  Tampa Bay will be playing a series at Toronto.

** Former Gator assistant and current Wyoming men’s basketball coach Larry Shyatt signs a contract extension that keeps him at the school through the 2019/20 season.
