After winning their first game of the season in a five-set match against Pasco Hernando State College, tonight the Santa Fe Saints volleyball team will try to keep the momentum going against Gulf Coast State College.
In the win over Pasco Hernando, sophomore Kaylin Powell led all Saints with 11 kills and four blocks.
“That was the big difference for us,” said Saints head coach Nick Cheronis, in reference to the play of Powell.
Also contributing to the win were freshmen Nadine Williams and Sheyanne Sullivan, who scored 14 and 9 points, respectively. Defensively, Buchholz High School’s own Kelly Collins led the team with 29 digs.
“Just because it’s our second year doesn’t mean that we can’t win,” Nadine Williams commented on the young program.
The Best Western Gateway Grand Santa Fe Classic will continue Saturday at 9:00 AM when the Saints play Eastern Florida State College and again at 4:00 PM against State College of Florida.
