The Missouri Tigers will be without starting quarterback Maty Mauk as they meet with the South Carolina Gamecocks on Saturday. With their starter suspended, the Tigers turn to freshman quarterback Drew Lock. “He’s very excited about it,” notes Missouri head coach Gary Pinkel. “He’s got some

experience. I think that’s going to help him.” The Tigers are undefeated at home this season, and look to Lock to lead them to another victory. In limited playing time this season, Lock has thrown for 225 yards and a touchdown with one interception. “He moves in the pocket well,” says Pinkel. “I think he has pretty good instinct back there, you know. He doesn’t have Maty’s footspeed, but not too many quarterbacks do.” South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier has not started a season with a 2-3 record since 2005, but he does not expect the Tigers to go down easily even without their starting quarterback. “Coach Pinkel and his staff do just about as good a job as anybody getting their team ready to play and playing smart…” Spurrier remarks. “They do things the right way.” The Gamecocks are coming off a 31-14 win against the UCF Knights, while the Tigers come off a road loss at Kentucky, their first loss of the season. Missouri has home field advantage for Saturday’s contest in Colombia. “We’re excited about playing South Carolina, and playing a very very good football team,” said Pinkel. “Steve Spurrier’s are well-coached teams. We’ve had some great battles against them.” The Tigers and Gamecocks match up begins on Saturday at noon. Pinkel on Drew Pinkel on Drew 2 Spurrier on Missouri Pinkel on South Carolina
