Royals Take First Two Games in World Series
The Kansas City Royals took advantage of their “Home-Field Advantage” on Wednesday night, defeating the New York Mets 7-1 in Game 2 of the World Series.
New York got an early run to go on top but after that it was all Kansas City. The Royals broke things open in the fifth inning against Mets starter and loser Jacob deGrom. With two men on base, Alcides Escobar cracked one to center for a single driving home Alex Gordon. Then Eric Hosmer singled to center and drove home both Alex Rios and Escobar. To put a cap on the fifth inning scoring spree, Mike Moustakas singled to right scoring Hosmer.
Hosmer said that opportunities when facing a tough pitcher such as deGrom don’t come often.
The Royals put the game away in the eighth, with a Gordon double bringing home Moustakas, a Paulo Orlando sacrifice fly scoring Salvador Perez, and finally a Escobar triple scoring Gordon. On the mount, Johnny Cueto threw a two hitter to get the win for KC.
New York Mets manager Terry Collins says they need to step it up and play better..
Game 3 is on Friday night in New York with Yordano Ventura set to start for the Royals and Noah Syndergaard for the Mets.
