Behind two first half goals, the Florida Gator soccer team advanced to the SEC Tournament final after a 2-0 win over Auburn Friday night. This is the Gators 16th appearance in the finals and their first since 2013.
Florida got on the board early after Christen Westphal scored on a free kick in the 11th minute. This was the senior’s second goal of the season and only the third in her career.
Eight minutes later the Gators would add another goal courtesy of their leading scorer. Savannah Jordan tracked down a through ball from Betsy Middleton to score her 21st goal of the season.
Florida also earned its fifth shutout of the season. The Florida defense has been lights out recently posting three shutouts in their last four matches. Freshman goalkeeper Kaylan Marckese had five saves Friday night, which is only one off her collegiate high.
The Gators will take on two-time defending SEC champ Texas A&M on Sunday. The Aggies defeated LSU 1-0 Friday night to head to their third straight championship game. Match time on Sunday is set for 2p.m.
