The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Dallas Cowboys in overtime last night with a final score of 33-27; the Cowboys are 2-6 while the Eagles improve to 4-4.
The Dallas defense couldn’t stop the winning play by Eagles quarterback Sam Bradford who threw a 41-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jordan Matthews in the overtime period which gave Dallas its sixth straight loss, its longest losing streak in 26 years.
The Cowboys have lost every game without starting quarterback Tony Romo, who has been recovering from a broken collarbone. He’ll be out for at least one more game. Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant, on the other hand, scored his first touchdown of the season in his second game back, post-injury.
Backup quarterback Matt Cassel threw for 299 yards and three touchdowns, but couldn’t seem to avoid some costly errors. He threw a game changing pick six to inside linebacker Jordan Hicks who later left in the fourth quarter due to a pectoral injury. Cassel expressed how difficult it was to lose in overtime.
After winning a rushing title with the Cowboys last season, Eagle running back Demarco Murray, played in his first game on his old home field and gained 161 total yards, with 83 coming on the ground.
The Cowboys next play at Tampa Bay to take on the Buccaneers in hopes of ending their losing streak.
