Cross Country Ready for NCAA South Regional Championship

Alabama will host the Cross Country South Regional Championship on Friday, November 13th in Tuscaloosa. Heading into the competition, the Gator men are ranked 3rd and the women are ranked 7th in the USTFCCCA Regional Rankings.

After their last performance, a handful of runners received some honors.  Red-shirt senior Jimmy Clark was named to the All SEC Men’s First Team, while fellow red-shirt senior Eddie Garcia was named to the All SEC Men’s Second Team.  A few freshman also received some recognition.  Jack Guyton made the Men’s All SEC Freshman Team, and Maria Larsen and Elisabeth Bergh made the Women’s All SEC Freshman Team.

Assistant coach Paul Spangler complimented the runners on their performance in the last event. Clark,  Garcia, Guyton, and three others posted personal bests in the outing. Clark’s time of 23:42.6 in the 8k tied Steve Zieminski for the fourth-fastest in Gators history.

Spangler notes that Clark and Garcia are especially motivated to make it to the national championships. But Spangler also mentions that he needs his 3rd, 4th, and 5th runners to produce more.

The South Regional Championship begins early on Friday with the women starting at 9:00AM and the men at 10:00AM.
