The 9-1 Alabama Crimson Tide will host the 9-1 Charleston Southern Buccaneers on Saturday in week 12. This game will also serve as senior day and the last home game in the 2015 schedule.
Head coach Nick Saban thinks senior day is very important to the team and the fans.
But aside from all the fun, Alabama will be going up against one of the best teams in the FCS division.
Charleston Southern is ranked eighth in coaches’ poll and ninth in stats rankings. With playoffs approaching November 28th, the Bucs are one of three teams eligible and will receive strong consideration to be a national seed. The team has had recent success from players being named player of the week. Wide receiver Nathan Perera was named offensive team player of the week. Perera helped the team get the first big south title in the win over liberty last week. Out of his seven receptions he averaged 18.3 yards per catch. Punter Truett Burns received special teams’ player of the week. Burns averages 48.0 yards on three punts.
Charleston Southern has tough competition as well with Alabama being ranked No.2 in college football playoff rankings. Alabama also has great players to watch out for as Quarter back Jake Coker is number five in passing yards in the SEC. Running back Derrick Henry is number one in total point scored in the SEC. Henry is also number two in rushing yards averaging 6.1 yards per carry. Henry is one of eleven semifinalist for the Doak Walker award for the nations top running backs. Then, Defensive lineman Jonathan Allen is number two in total sacks.
This game will be the first for both teams in matchup history. Although in different divisions, the Buccaneers lost just 21-20 to Vanderbilt in last season play. Charleston Southern will have to watch out for Alabama’s strong defense. Every time Alabama was doubted this season they came out on top as with Georgia. Not only did they win but 38-10 was nothing near a close matchup. The Buccaneers are also standing in the way of the Iron Bowl which is shortly approaching.
Both teams have momentum going into Saturdays game. Alabama is on a seven game winning streak while Charleston Southern is on a eight game winning streak. Two teams who are on top of their game in their own divisions collide at 4:00pm.
