The Jacksonville Jaguars (4-7) hosted the San Diego Chargers (8-3) for their 11th game of the regular season. However, the Jaguars fell to the Chargers and lost 31-25. This game ended the six game loosing streak for the Chargers.
The Jaguars had a strong start to the game and scored two field goals in the first quarter. Kicker Jason Myers scored the first field goal of 22 yards and scored the second field goal of 51 yards giving the Jaguars an early lead of 6-0. However, the Jags were not able to keep this lead for than one minute into the second quarter. Quarterback for the Chargers Philip Rivers threw a pass short left to wide receiver Dontrelle Inman for a two yard touchdown. The successful extra point kick by Josh Limbo put the chargers to a 7-6 lead.
Myers kicked a 27 yard field goal later in the second quarter bringing the Jags back up 9-7. Once again Jacksonville was unable to keep the lead after Rivers threw a pass short middle to tight end Antonio Gates for a nine yard touch down. The good extra point kick by Limbo brought the Chargers lead up 14-9.
The Jags had possession of the ball again but quarterback Blake Bortles threw is 13th interception of the regular season. Three plays later, Rivers and Gates connected for a 12-yard touchdown and a double-digit lead 21-9.
In the third quarter Jacksonville scored first with a 28 yard field goal by Myers bringing the Chargers lead back down to single digits 21-12. The single digit lead didn’t last and it was soon brought back up to double digits after Limbo scored a 28 yard field goal. This left the score at the end of the third 24-12 San Diego.
In the fourth quarter, Bortles was able to find wide receiver Julius Thomas for a 21 yard touchdown. A good extra point kick brought the gap down 24-19. However, the Chargers were able to score another touchdown with less than five minutes left in the quarter. Rivers found Stevie Johnson and an extra point kick put the score 31-19 Chargers. The Jaguars were able score again with 1:21 remaining after blocking a punt to make it close but Myers’ one sided kick was out of bounds.
The game ended in a 31-25 Chargers victory.
Offensive tackle for the Jags Jermey Parnell says while the yards and touchdowns are great, the team needs to find a way to win.
Looking ahead the Jaguars will play the Titans at Tennessee December 6th at 1pm.
