2016 Recruiting: Florida Gators Soccer

February 15, 2016

Florida Gators soccer coach Becky Burleigh seems to be excited about the team’s 2016 recruiting class.

Twelve freshmen will be joining the Gators in 2016 including seven from the state of Florida. Two freshmen have already enrolled on campus for the spring 2016 semester: Hope Hyde from University Park, Texas and Jocelyn Nelson from Barnsdall, Oklahoma. Hyde was a member of Dallas Texans ’98 where she served as captain for three years. Nelson served on the Region Three ODP International Team in 2014 where she was coached by assistant coach Alan Kirkup.

Florida will be suffering a key loss in senior trio Lauren Smith, Claire Falknor and Christen Westphal. Together, those three helped Florida achieve a 73-18-5 record in the last four years. Burleigh complimented their leadership skills and talked about how tough it would be to replace them.

The 2016 class will be joining a majority of returning players including 15 freshmen from last year.
