High School Hoops: Boys And Girls In Playoff Action

Regional semi-final action took place Tuesday for a number of area teams in boy’s basketball.   Santa Fe (12-11) tangled with Ponte Vedra for the first time this season and Santa Fe head coach Elliot Harris believed his team was ready to give the Sharks all they could handle.  But in the end, the Raiders lost 59-54.

In the Region 1-3A semifinal, PK Yonge loses to Orlando First Academy 72-52.

In the Region 1-6A semifinal, Gainesville High School took on Ocala Vanguard.  Gainesville head coach Kelly Beckham believed it would be important for his team to keep the Knights out of the paint to have a good chance to win.  In the end in an exciting game, the Hurricanes advance with an 85-83 win.   Gainesville High will play Friday in a regional final.

In regional finals action in Class 1A, Hawthorne falls to Hamilton County 63-60 but Bell advances to the State Tournament after beating Crescent City in overtime.   In girl’s action, Trenton plays for the Class 1-A state championship today when it faces Madison County.
