The Florida lacrosse team improved to 8-0 for the season after routing Boston College 13-5 on Friday. This was the first match up for the two programs, each ranked in the Top 20. It was also Florida’s fifth time facing a Top 20 opponent this year, and the second of four straight top ranked match ups for the Gators at home.
The Eagles threatened early, scoring in the first three minutes of the game. The Gators took over from there, with eight different team members scoring at least one goal. Junior Sammi Burgess led the attack for the Gators, recording four goals. Nicole Graziano and Devon Schneider each added two more goals to the scoreboard.
The game took a turn when the Gators committed 21 total penalties, while the Eagles accounted for 13 more. Three Boston College players received yellow cards, as did Gator Sydney DuPre. The aggressive play went from bad to worse when star Gator midfielder Mollie Stevens was issued a red card with 19:08 left to play in the game.
The Gators will not have much time to regroup because they play host to Towson on Monday. Looking ahead, the Gators face top-ranked Maryland next Saturday. The Gators will open Big East play at home on March 26 when they host Vanderbilt.
