The 47th annual Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals races back into Gainesville March 17 through 20. The event is the traditional east coast opener for the sport, and the season’s first of 16 races for Pro Stock Motorcycle racing.
Terry McMillen returns to Gainesville for the races. McMillen is the team owner of Hoosier Thunder Motorsports, a multi-car drag racing team based in Brownsburg, Indiana. He has competed in a variety of drag racing classes including Alcohol, Nitro Funny Cars and Top Fuel Dragsters. In 2010, McMillen began racing full-time on the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing series.
In 2015, McMillen raced to two semifinal round appearances at Atlanta and Englishtown. In last year’s Gatornationals, he finished 12th in the Top Fuel competition. This year, McMillen drove his Amalie Motor Oil Xtermigator NHRA Top Fuel Dragster to a second round win in Phoenix. The win marked McMillen’s 125th NHRA start and solidifies the team’s career best start. McMillen enters Gainesville tenth in points. He is looking for some good luck in Gator Country with the Xtermigator.
Good vibes from Gator fans is not the only reason McMillen thinks he has a good shot at winning the race. He says Gainesville has the perfect conditions for a good race. The track is surrounded by trees, which gives the car plenty of oxygen to run to its best ability.
Fans can also attend Media Day March 17 to see McMillen and his team break down his car and to learn more about what goes into each race. He hopes to give fans an unforgettable experience.
Race to Gainesville Raceway to catch all the action.
