The Owls starting pitcher David McKay started the season strong. The sophomore pitcher got a career high 14 strike-outs against LIU Brooklyn where he earned his second win on the season. Head Coach John McCormack says McKay has been in a drought for his last two mound appearances and he needs to focus more on the strike zone.
McCormack is hoping that McKay delivers tonight but is confident in his pitching staff if the save is needed. Senior Brandon Rhodes pitched a two-hit shutout game against Georgetown. This was is first complete game pitched in his career.
More competition coming for the Owls, junior Stephen Kerr was named Conference USA hitter of the week after his weekend performance at Middle Tennessee. Kerr hit .538 on the week advancing six runners on eight opportunities with three RBI in starting lineup. Senior Brett Lashley had three hits, three RBI, and three runs scored in the double digit defeat against Middle Tennessee. Head Coach McCormack says his team has come together faster than expected and he’s really surprised with the out come.
First pitch is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday. Hear live coverage on ESPN Gainesville 95.3 starting at 6:55 p.m.
