NHL Playoff: Lightning Look To Extend Series Lead Over Detroit

April 19, 2016

The Detroit Red Wings are still alive in the Stanley Cup playoff series with the Tampa Bay Lightning after winning Game 3 at home 2-0.

Tampa Bay recorded just 16 shots with Petr Mrazek in Detroit’s net, their lowest shot output on the road in the playoffs since tallying only 15 in Game 1 of a second round series at New Jersey during the 2003 postseason.

With the game still tied following a scoreless opening period, the Lightning could only muster three shots in the second period. Trailing 2-0 in the third, they had four shots.

Meanwhile the Red Wings scored just enough to win; forward Henrik Zetterberg scored a goal that after a very lengthy delay for review ended up being good.

Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill said the team executed their plan of preventing the Lightning to score.

The key for the Lightning moving forward in the series will be to stay out of the penalty box. But that might be easier said than done as the teams have combined for 31 power plays through three games.

Detroit forward, Henrik Zetterberg says the team will plan on building off the home victory.

The Red Wings, who pushed the Lightning to Game 7 last season, will look to even the series in Game 4 from Joe Louis Arena Tuesday night at 7pm.
