The annual “Run For The Roses” takes place this weekend as the Kentucky Derby is run for the 142nd time at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky.
Early favorite Nyquist drew the number 13 post for the race, won by the great American Pharoah last year on the way to a Triple Crown. Only four horses have won from the number 13 spot since 1900.
Some of the other betting favorites are Exaggerator at the number 11 post, Creator at number 3, Mohaymen at number 14 post and Gun Runner at the five.
Four time Derby winner Bob Baffert, who won with American Pharoah last year, enters Mor Spirit in this year’s race. The horse will be ridden by three time winner Gary Stevens but no horse has ever won this race out of the 17 post which is where Mor Spirit will start from out of the gate.
In all, barring late scratches, 20 horses will run in this year’s race.
