Jordan’s Two Goals Lead Gators Soccer to Win Over Ole Miss

Savannah Jordan scored her 11th and 12th goals of the season to propel the Florida soccer team to a 3-0 road win over Ole Miss on Sunday.

The win marks Florida’s fourth consecutive SEC win, and its third clean sheet in four games. The result moves the Gators to 10-3 overall and 5-2 in the SEC, while Ole Miss drops to 8-7 overall and 3-4 in the SEC.

The Gators started the scoring in the first half with two goals that set the tone for the rest of the game. Florida had success when crossing the ball into the box, as that’s what led to the two first-half goals.

Jordan kicked off the scoring for the Gators with her seventh minute goal. Samantha Chung received the ball on the right wing and sent in a cross to the box that went towards Jordan. The pass bounced off Jordan, who then took a touch into space before sending a low, right-footed effort that just dribbled past Ole Miss goalie Marnie Merritt. The goal, the 76th of Jordan’s career, gave Florida the 1-0 lead.

Midfielder Pamela Begic added onto the lead five minutes before half-time. Jordan laid off a pass to sophomore Melanie Monteagudo on the left wing, who sent in a left-footed cross to the far post. Begic headed the cross at the far post, and the ball crossed the goal-line before it could be cleared by an Ole Miss defender. With Begic scoring her second goal of the season, Florida had the 2-0 lead and for the second straight week, and the momentum going into half-time.

Less than 15 minutes into the second-half, Jordan put away the game for Florida with the 77th goal of her career. A throw-in for Florida just past mid-field led to a string of passes that eventually fell to Meggie Dougherty Howard. Dougherty Howard slipped a through ball between two defenders to find a wide open Jordan, who curled a right-footed shot that beat Merritt at the near post.

Florida’s next match is a highly-anticipated SEC clash in Columbia against the fourth ranked South Carolina Gamecocks.
