Titans Run Over Dolphins, 30-17

The offensive woes for the Miami Dolphins continue.   Despite some big plays, the Dolphins offense could not contain the pass rush of the Tennessee Titans and the on offense run-heavy Titans could not be contained as the Dolphins fall 30-17 in Miami.

Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota was on his game. He helped his team to the win throwing for three touchdowns and running for another score. Mariota had no interceptions on the day and went 20 for 29.

Paired with Mariota’s additional 60 yards, DeMarco Murray added to the Titans nearly unstoppable run game with 121 yards.

The Dolphin’s run defense ranks in the bottom five of the league and they struggled to hold back the Titans, who totaled 235 yards on the ground.

Meanwhile, with the Dolphins suffering from many injuries, including two starting offensive linemen out for the game, quarterback Ryan Tannehill found himself running for his life a lot of times when trying to pass.  He threw for 191 yards, going 12 of 18 with two interceptions. The Titan defense was all over him, getting six sacks while hurrying him several other times.

Some Dolphin fans were not pleased and began booing Tannehill by the second quarter. After the second week in a row with just eight first downs, Dolphins coach Adam Gase commented on the teams struggling offense in the post-game press conference, according to the Miami Dolphins official site.

“We are inept right now,” Gase said. “We can’t get out of our own way right now.”

That doesn’t mean the Dolphins performance wasn’t without some major plays. Jakeem Grant returned a punt 74 yards, Damien Williams turned a short pass into a 55-yard catch-and-run gain and DeVante Parker made a 50-yard reception that led to a field goal.  But it wasn’t enough.

The Titans extended their record to 2-3 while the Dolphins fall to 1-4.

Next up, the Titans will play Cleveland in the first of three consecutive home games on Sunday.  The Dolphins will continue a four-game home stand when they play Pittsburgh.
