Premier League Recap: Man City Thrashed, Chelsea Regain Winning Form

Chelsea 3, Leicester City 0

Goals:

  • Marcos Alonso (6′, 51′)
  • Pedro (71′)

Recap:

The current Premier League leaders went to the King Power Stadium and thumped the reigning league champions as Chelsea got back in the win column after losing their past game to Tottenham, which ruined their record streak of consecutive wins in the league.

Within five minutes, Chelsea had the lead via the first goal of Marcos Alonso’s brace. The ball dribbled to the left side of the box, and the wing back was there to curl it into the far post, past the outstretched hands of Leicester keeper Kasper Schmeichel.

Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3 formation did the job the rest of the way, playing typical sturdy defense. Two second-half goals via Alonso and Pedro made the score more convincing for the Blues.

Alonso benefitted off a deflection on his shot from outside the box, and Pedro capitalized on sloppy defense, heading in a ball that popped up in the air into an empty net.

It is worth noting that Diego Costa did not play in the match, with the Spaniard being benched by Conte. Conte said it was due to a back injury, but many reports say the player got into a row with the coach. It remains to be seen whether he’ll return to the lineup for the next match.

Leicester now sit within five points of the relegation zone, with the team struggling in the defense of their shocking Premier League title from last season.
