Premier League Recap: Arsenal grab 98′ winner, Spurs tie Man City

Other Matches

Liverpool 2, Swansea City 3

A shock home loss for Liverpool against a team fighting to avoid relegation. Fernando Llorente gave Liverpool troubles, scoring on two headers. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will need to refocus his team, who are currently without Sadio Mane and Joel Matip because of the African Cup of Nations. Klopp’s team is now winless in their last three league matches.

Bournemouth 2, Watford 2

Bournemouth came back twice from a goal down at home to rescue a point, including an 81st minute equalizer from Benik Afobe. For Watford, two set-piece goals gave them a crucial away point, as they now sit eight points clear of the relegation zone.

Crystal Palace 0, Everton 1

Seamus Coleman’s 87th minute winner means Everton are now winners of three out of their last four, continuing the momentum gained from their thrashing of Manchester City last week. The loss at home for Crystal Palace, combined with Swansea’s win at Liverpool, means Crystal Palace replace them in the relegation zone. They sit in 18th, two points from safety.

Middlesbrough 1, West Ham 3

No Dimitri Payet, no problem for the Hammers, as an Andy Carroll brace gave them a huge away win. Amidst the continued saga surrounding a possible Payet transfer, manager Slaven Bilic has to be thankful for the return to form of his striker in Carroll. The win puts them back in the top half of the table after a rocky start to the season.

Stoke City 1, Manchester United 1

It wasn’t raining, but United were able to pull away a point on a cold night in Stoke. Wayne Rooney provided the equalizer in the 93rd minute with a brilliant free-kick. The goal makes Rooney the all-time leading goalscorer in Manchester United history, breaking the mark previously held by Sir Bobby Charlton.

West Brom 2, Sunderland 0

West Brom earned the three points at home thanks to two top-class finishes in the first half, one from Darren Fletcher and the other from Bruce Brunt. One of the pleasant surprises of the season, they sit in eighth place just four points behind Everton for the last Europa League spot. Sunderland meanwhile seem poised for a long relegation battle, currently in last place with just 15 points through 22 matches.

Southampton 3, Leicester City 0

A second consecutive three-goal defeat for Leicester City and their 11th loss of the season means they now sit just five points clear of the relegation zone. It’s on pace to be one of the worst campaigns ever for a defending Premier League champion. Southampton meanwhile will now turn their attention to the second leg of the League Cup semifinal against Liverpool in the middle of the week.

Chelsea 2, Hull City 0

Diego Costa made a triumphant return to the starting lineup, scoring his league-leading 15th goal of the season (tied with Alexis Sanchez) on the stroke of halftime to open the scoring for the Blues. Gary Cahill added a second goal late in the second half for insurance as Chelsea are eight points clear at the top. Antonio Conte’s side appears to be the clear favorite to capture the title at season’s end based on their run of form.
