The Player’s Championship will tee off this week in Ponte Vedra at TPC Sawgrass, an always challenging course featuring one of the toughest holes in golf known as the “Island Green.”
The tournament is often considered a “fifth major” because of the prestige it has, offering the highest prize in any golf tournament of $110.5 million.

Although Johnson hasn’t done well at this championship in the past, he believes he can do well if he plays quality golf. Jason Day looks to repeat his win at the Championship. No player has ever repeated as the champion at this event. Sergio Garcia, who’s ranked number six has done well here; he’s the all time earnings leader at TPC and is coming off a win at The Masters earlier this year.
Justin Thomas another big name in the field, ranked 10th in the world; he’s coming off a tie for fifth at the Zurich Classic and a tie for 22nd at The Masters.
And ranked fifth in the world is Jordan Speith, seemingly always a contender in what will be a star studded field.
Gator Connection
One former Gator golfer, Billy Horschel, is in the TPC field.
