Five Points of Life Race This Weekend in Gainesville

The annual Five Points of Life Race takes place this weekend.  The race is split into two days because of different events.

For Saturday, the Five Points 5K starts at 8 a.m., the Kids Marathon begins at 9:15 a.m. and a post-race party from 8 to 10 a.m.

On Sunday, the Marathon, Half Marathon and Marathon Relay begin at 7 a.m. After the races end, there will be awards given out.

About the Race

This race started back in 2006. In all of the races they’ve held, there have been around 13,000 participants.

The goal of both the race and the Five Points of Life Foundation is to get more people signed up to be blood, apheresis, marrow, cord blood and organ and tissue donors.  Five Points of Life wants to decrease the number of people who have to be on a waiting list for organs, marrow and blood.

Honorable Attendee

William Collett is an 11-year-old who is undergoing chemotherapy treatment for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. He is in need of platelets and blood donations.

Collett’s dad organized a blood drive in honor of Collett, which started in January and ends this Sunday.

Collett has the special honor of opening the marathon on Sunday.

How Can You Participate?

Even if you aren’t running in the races this weekend, you can still help spread Five Points of Life Foundation’s mission.

Cheering for the runners, participating in the raffle and attend the post-race parties are just a few way.  For the raffle, there are some big prizes up for grabs.

  • Kevin Sullivan autographed baseball and jersey
  • Mike White autographed basketball
  • Scalloping fishing charter
  • First Magnitude Growler and Gift Package
  • Soundcue Audio Bluetooth headphones
