SEC Matchup: Texas A&M Hosts Mississippi State

In one of four SEC Matchup’s tonight, Mississippi State travels to College Station to take on Texas A&M.

With NCAA regular season play nearing its end, these two teams are trying to get last minute wins and move up in the standings.

Only one game separates the Bulldogs and Aggies in the SEC, and MSU is one game out of being in third.

This is the eleventh meeting between the Bulldogs and Aggies. Texas A&M currently leads the series 6-4.

Last year when they met in Starkville, Mississippi State came out on top, 67-59.

The competition between these two teams has increased in the last four meetings as the average margin of victory is under four points (3.75).

Texas A&M looks to bounce back after having their four-game win streak snapped while on the road. They were defeated by two SEC rivals, Missouri and Arkansas.

The Aggies have faced a difficult schedule this season, playing some of the toughest opponents outside of the SEC.

  • West Virginia (W 88-65)
  • USC (W 75-59)
  • Arizona (L 64-67)
  • Oklahoma State (W 72-55)
  • Penn State (W 98-87)
  • And later this month, Kansas

Someone on the Aggies to look out for is Sophomore Forward Robert Williams. In Texas A&M’s game versus Arkansas, he recorded his 17th career double-double. He finished that game with 20 points and 14 rebounds.

Texas A&M has a 17-10 overall record and is 6-8 in the SEC.

Mississippi State Bulldogs

Mississippi State comes into tonight’s game off a win over Ole Miss, 79-62.

If the Bulldogs win, that will be their second SEC road win of the season. Also, this will be their eighth road win of the season which they haven’t done since 2012.

Players to look out for:

  • Junior Guard Quinndary Weatherspoon: Against Ole Miss, he recorded his second double-double of the season and his fourth in his career. He had 16 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Sophomore Guard Lamar Peters: In the last four games, Peters has recorded a total of 26 assists.
  • Freshman Guard Nick Weatherspoon: In the last two games, he has gone 11-12 shooting, no turnovers, and three assists. He has not had a turnover in the last six games.
