Florida Baseball will Host Jacksonville in Midweek Contest

Number one Florida Gator Baseball will be playing the Jacksonville Dolphins Tuesday night in Gainesville. The Gators have a 32-6 overall record and 12-3 in conference record. While the Dolphins come into the game with a 24-9 overall record and 6-3 in conference record. The Gators are coming off a three-game series sweep of the Missouri Tigers and the Dolphins won the series against Florida Gulf Coast 2-1 over the weekend.

When They Last Met

Back on March 21st, Florida defeated Jacksonville 10-3. With his first career start freshman, Hunter McMullen only gave up four hits and no runs over three innings. Andrew Baker also came in and pitched three scoreless innings. In the seventh, the Dolphins finally got some momentum against the Gators by earning their only three runs off pitcher Tommy Mace.

The Gators offensively played well with three Gators (Schwarz, Dalton, and Reese) all coming way with a homer. Sophomore, Wil Dalton even went 4-4 at the plate.

Players of The Week

Team Captain and senior catcher, JJ Schwarz became the second Gator this semester to earn SEC Co-Player of the Week. He earns this title based on his work against FSU and Missouri last week. Schwarz went 7-14 with 2 home runs, 2 doubles, and lead the team with 6 RBI’s. He enters the game against Jacksonville with a .305 batting average. Schwarz shares the SEC Co-Player of the Week title with LSU’s Austin Bain. Jonathan India is the other player who has earned the honor this year.

For the Dolphins, junior infielder, Angel Camacho earned ASUN Player of the Week for his performance against rival Florida Gulf Coast over the weekend. Camacho went 7-11 with 4 runs, 7 RBI’s and 2 homers. This weekend Camacho batted .636 with a 1.182 slugging percentage. Camacho is now batting .325 on the year and leads the team with 8 doubles, 33 RBI’s and 72 stolen bases.

Game Times This Week

First pitch is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday night (4/17/18) in Gainesville where Florida will take on Jacksonville. You can watch the game on the SEC Network plus or listen on ESPN Gainesville 98.1 FM. Later in the week, the Gators will play in an SEC series against the Kentucky Wildcats in Lexington, KY.
