The Panthers come into the Bubly Invitational with a team frustration. Georgia State does not have a great record, but half of the team’s losses have been by three or fewer runs. When looking at their first 13 games, the Panthers are slightly worse than their opponents.

When looking at hitting, the team has a slash line of .251 hitting average/.339 on-base percentage/.402 slugging percentage. Compare that to their opponents .255 hitting average/.349 on-base percentage/.438 slugging percentage. Yes, we see that opposing teams slugs more bases than them but the other two are fairly close. With one or two big games, the team will be on par with their opposition.

The weakness in the Panthers game is when their errors. In the first 13 games, the Panthers have let up 49 earned runs and their opponents have let up 46 earned runs against them. But, the Panthers have let up a total of 64 runs and their opponents have let up only 51 total runs. The Panthers have a total of 22 errors over the first 13 games, their opponents have given up eight errors against them.

If they want to do well over the weekend, they need to make the routine plays. If the errors disappear, the Panthers will be in more games and can get the results that the team desires.

Chanticleers

The Chanticleers have been playing like a glass cannon going into the invitational. Their offense is hitting, hitting the ball hard. But their pitching and fielding have to catch up to their hitting.

Coastal Carolina bats are hot and look to remain hot. They have 28 home runs and 79 runs batted in, compared to their opponent’s 17 home runs and 58 runs batted in. The team is hitting .295 hitting average/.365 on-base percentage/.576 slugging. They are hitting bombs.

They come back down to earth when you look at their pitching, the team earned a run average of 4.04 and have walked 46 people. The Panthers need to do decent enough for their offense.

Tigers

The Tigers need to score runs if they want to win games. The Tigers have 43 runs in 17 games compared to their opponents’ 68 runs.

Their pitching has been serviceable pitching to a 3.66 earned runs average and keeping opposing hitting to .248 batting average. The Tigers are by far the worst offensive team but luckily the only elite pitching team is the Gators.
