Head Coach Billy Napier Speaks After Day One Spring Practice

The Gators Football team started spring practice Tuesday. With first-year head coach Billy Napier taking over the reins of the Florida football program that is hungry for success. He aims to implement his winning structure now.

Florida Path to Success Starts Now

In his first press conference since spring practice started, Napier explained the style of practice he intends on running. Putting emphasis on intensity, he said he believes the road to a championship starts now.

Understanding that he is taking over a program that is in the midst of change, he opened the spring practice season with an open mind. Acknowledging the fact that Tuesday’s practice was the first time the team would be together with pads on, he said he accepted the challenge it presented.

Emphasis on “new”

Throughout the offseason, Coach has instilled a two-phase system. Phase one consisted of recruiting and assembling a coaching staff. Phase two was centered around teaching a new system on both sides of the ball. With spring practices started and the season nearing closer, phase two has taken center stage. Napier said he understands the growth that is to come with the team.

Putting an emphasis on the word “new”, Napier said he understands how the transition will take time for all members of the Gator football organization.

More Than a Game

Through it all, Napier said he realizes there is more than X’s and O’s that lead to success on the field. Highlighting the human element of football, he said he tries to preach to his players and staff the importance of relationships, and how they lead to success within a program.

A New Approach to Gator Football

The process of building a championship-winning program is one that doesn’t occur overnight. It takes a great commitment from the players and entire coaching staff, but when put together in the right ways, success can happen, Napier said.

Napier’s approach has taken with the Gator program is one that should be applauded and looked upon with great admiration. He knows that winning truly is a process, one that boils down to improving each and every day.
