Undefeated Georgia and the Defeated Vanderbilt: the SEC Performance Spectrum

There is a little bit over a month left of the college football season and two teams have shown their capabilities at opposite ends of the spectrum. The No. 1 University of Georgia football program has done nothing but perform beyond the average. The Dawgs have pulled off a win-lose ratio of 6-0 in the SEC. On the other end, Vanderbilt has so far, performed under the average with a 0-5 SEC win-lose ratio.

Georgia Football

This season Georgia has played nine teams, six of those being SEC teams and has not lost any games. The last game it played against formerly No. 1 University of Tennessee and Georgia still took the win by a margin of 14 points.

In the game against Vanderbilt University, Georgia scored the most points so far this season. UGA succeeded in blocking all attempts to score and won the game 55-0. During the game, Vanderbilt had 11 possessions and only made its way past midfield twice. Two of the possessions ended with  fumbles and one with a missed field goal. The top players of the game were Carson Beck who had 98 yards and two touchdowns, Daijun Edwards with 49 yards and one touchdown and Dillon Bell who had 54 yards and a touchdown.

Georgia will finish the season with games remaining against Mississippi State, University of Kentucky and Georgia Tech.

Vanderbilt Football

Vanderbilt University is 3-6, with a SEC record of 0-5. The SEC teams it has played (and lost to) so far include No. 10 University of Alabama (55-3), No. 11 Ole Miss (52-28), No. 1 Georgia (55-0), University of Missouri (17-14) and University of South Carolina (38-27).

The Commodores’ best game this season was against Hawai’i in their season-opener: a 63-10 win for Vandy. The top players for Vanderbilt were AJ Swann who had 51 yards, Mike Wright who had 163 yards and scored two touchdowns and Will Sheppard with 39 yards and two touchdowns.

To finish off the rest of the season the Commodores are scheduled to play University of Kentucky, University of Florida and No. 1 University of Tennessee.
