Gators Women’s Hoops Set to Take on Dayton

On Sunday, the Gators women’s basketball team (7-1) hits the road to take on the Dayton Flyers (0-7). Tip off is set for 1 p.m.

The Gators and Flyers have faced each other three times in program history, and Florida has won all three matchups. The teams faced off last season with the Gators narrowly defeating the Flyers 60-57.

Gators Hot Start

Kelly Rae Finley’s squad is on a five-game win streak and have won seven of their first eight games to start the season. Despite losing Kiki Smith in the offseason, the Gators have adjusted and have found success. Finley is in her second season as the head coach of the team and she has a 28-12 overall record.

Finley and the Gators are looking to replicate the same success they had last season, hoping to get back to the NCAA Tournament. The Gators went 2-0 in the St. Pete Showcase and are looking for their first road win of the season. Florida lost their only road game of the season to Florida State back on Nov. 16.

Flyers Looking to Catch Their Stride

Dayton is currently looking to win their first game of the season against a tough Gators team. The Flyers have played in tight games to start their season, taking two games into overtime. The team also suffered a one point loss in their last game against Ohio on Tuesday.

Flyers head coach Tamika Williams is in her first year with the team and she’s looking to continue the success the team had last season. The squad finished 26-6, going 14-1 in conference play.

Dayton has notable losses against the Kentucky Wildcats and Ole Miss Rebels in the Baha Mar Flamingo Tournament, this season. The Flyers are looking to hit on some success in the final four games before they enter conference play.

Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday in Dayton.
