Gainesville Hurricane’s Offense Scores 15 in Win Over Rival Rams

Gainesville High School batters were locked in early and often in its decisive 15-5 victory over Eastside on Tuesday night. The Hurricanes tallied 13 hits as the game ended after 5 innings from a run rule.

Hurricane Flurry Early

Gainesville wasted no time scoring runs and getting baserunners with a five-run first inning. Starting pitcher Cade Dixon starred early with a two-run single to make the lead 5-1 at the end of 1 inning. He followed up his hit on the mound by getting back to back 1-2-3 innings. His teammates continued to pour it on as #27 Nate Kemph ripped a two-run double to left field. This increased the lead to 9-1 for the Hurricanes in the 3rd.

Eastside Come Back

The Eastside fans didn’t have much to cheer about until a spectacular diving catch was made to end the 3rd saving 2 runs. This catch gave new energy to not only the Eastside fans who traveled, but gave life to the Rams bats as well. They scored 4 runs in the 5th inning highlighted by a Thomas Shay double that scored 2 runs. The lead was cut to just 10-5 entering the bottom half of the 5th.

Gainesville Closes It Out

The Hurricanes started the inning with 3 straight singles to load the bases for Kellen Brown, who pitched in relief the last 1/3 of the 5th inning. He crushed a double down the 3rd base line scoring the runners from 2nd and 3rd. The Hurricanes could feel the victory after that hit. They would go on to get 3 more hits, leading to 3 runs including a walk-off double from catcher Connor Kemph.

Gainesville evened it’s record to 2-2 on the season and will host Columbia on Friday night. Eastside falls to 0-2, but will look for its first win when it travels to Santa Fe on Friday.
