Florida Offensive Lineman Austin Barber Talks Spring Football

Florida football head coach Billy Napier’s second year is officially underway. Spring football began Saturday and the Gators are optimistic for the upcoming season. Florida offensive lineman Austin Barber spoke to the media to discuss what to expect coming into Spring football.

Health of the Roster

So far it seems like every player is healthy and in top shape, according to Barber.

Florida’s new quarterback, Graham Mertz, is showing a lot of dedication as a new player so far. Mertz is hard at work, putting in extra time on the side looking to secure the starting role under center. His work ethic can be deemed of high importance if applied on the field.

In just a short time, every transfer is ambitious, putting in high efforts to be as engaged as possible with Gator fans.

Despite losing four key offensive lineman, this group is holding lots of potential. According to Barber, they’ve all seemed to fit in right away and are eager to begin performing on the field.

A Time of Reflection

Barber has spent time reflecting on his performance during the Fall. In the last few months, he’s taken the time to re-watch games from the season to truly dissect and observe his gameplay.

It’s important for Barber to learn from previous mistakes, or take note on what he can do to perform better in the seasons to come.

Barber will have a solidified position this year instead of switching left and right throughout each game. His experience and depth has been enhanced for the future because of this.

Despite Barber finding himself in snaps between back-and-forth movement positions, he’s confident he can take over wherever he is placed.

Up Next

Though the production of the offensive line is still unknown, there is still some optimism to bear for Florida fans. The Gators’ success will be defined based on how they can either replicate or exceed the offense’s expectations.
