The Florida Gator diving teams finished the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships today and will send three divers to NCAA Championships.
Leonardo Garcia, Skip Donald and Maha Amer will represent the Gators in Minneapolis, Minnesota and in Knoxville, Tennessee at the end of March.
Amer to compete on all boards
For the second year in a row, Maha Amer will be competing at the national championships. As the first Gator to qualify for Zones this year, she was able to snatch her spot on the 1-meter this past Monday with a combined score of 596.90 after prelims and finals. Amer earned the silver medal at SEC Championships this season.
Amer also finished seventh after her 3-meter event, scoring 649.45. She finished up her last event, platform, in 12th place with a 509.60 score.
Garcia and Donald Qualify For The Men
Leonardo Garcia finished eighth in the 1-meter with a score of 686.45. Garcia also finished seventh in the 3-meter with 774.10, earning his way to nationals for the fourth-straight season. Finishing the meet, he scored a 748.20 in his platform event and placed fourth.
Skip Donald punched his ticket to NCAAs on the last day, scoring 697.60 for his platform and finishing ninth. With his ticket and because he finished 11th in the 1-meter and 10th in the 3-meter, Donald will now have the opportunity to compete in all three events in Minneapolis.
The women’s NCAA Championships will be March 15-18 in Knoxville and the men’s will be March 22-25 in Minneapolis.
