Gator Softball Set to Face Stetson

No. 8 Florida softball (22-5) travels to Stetson (17-12) Wednesday night for a midweek affair. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. Florida holds an overall record of 18-2 against Stetson.

Florida’s Last Game

The Gators enter Wednesday’s game after taking two out of three games against the Missouri Tigers over the weekend. Despite falling to the Tigers 7-3 in the first game of the series, the Gators bounced back and won games two and three 4-3. In the series finale, the Gators stunned the Tigers with a walk-off win, earing their first conference series victory of the year.

Additionally, Skylar Wallace was crowned SEC Player of the Week. She claimed her sixth multi-hit game of the season, has consecutively reached base safely in 23 games and is now on a five-game hitting streak.

Overall, Florida softball ranks in the top five nationally in multiple categories: batting average (No. 5), on base percentage (No. 2), scoring (No. 4), slugging percentage (No. 5) and walks (No. 3).

The Gators have three players hitting over .400. Wallace leads the team with a .455 average while Charla Echols and Kendra Falby are hitting .429 and .425, respectively. Echols leads the team in RBIs with 37.

Stetson’s Last Game

The Hatters are coming off of a series loss to Queens University over the weekend. Stetson lost the first two games of the series before winning game three 1-0.

Freshman pitcher Hannah Marien threw her first collegiate no-hitter on Saturday in the 1-0 victory. Marien also recorded her third shutout of the season while walking striking out six and only walking one. Courtney Brandt pitched Stetson’s last no-hitter in 2015.

Though Stetson has encountered bumps in the road, its season has been successful with big wins. They have two ranked wins over UCF and Georgia and will look to pull of the upset over the Gators.

First pitch is set for 6 p.m. in DeLand.
