Marlins Blown Out By Twins, Fall to 1-4

The Miami Marlins (1-4) were defeated 11-1 by the MLB best Minnesota Twins (4-0) Monday night.

Twins

Minnesota was able to come out of the gate swinging for the fences with a first inning home run by right fielder Max Kepler.

They were able to get 16 pitches out of Marlins pitcher Johnny Cueto.

In the second inning, the Twins started off with a walk and a single before Joey Gallo hit a 3-run home run to make it 4-0.

Down the stretch, Minnesota was able to add four more runs in the third and fourth innings going up 8-0 before the Marlins would drive in a run.

They would add two more home runs putting the Marlins out of reach at 11-1.

The Twins have outscored opponents 22-5 to start the season.

Marlins

It was not a good day for Marlins pitchers.

Starter Johnny Cueto gave up three hits, four runs, two home runs and a walk in 30 pitches. Cueto was unable to earn a strike out in his start.

The Marlins, however, saw some success from Jeff Lindgren, who in his first MLB action gave up four hits and three walks over five innings.

The Marlins were never able to get anything going on offense, which is something they’ve struggled with mightily the past three games.

The Marlins were able to out hit the Twins 12-10, but added 11 strike outs to the Twins’ three.

The only run for the Marlins came in the fifth inning, when second baseman Luis Arraez was able to drive one in on a single.

What’s Next?

The Miami Marlins and Minnesota Twins face off again tonight at 6:40.

The Twins will be looking to secure their second series win, and the Marlins will look to snap a three game losing streak. 2022 CY Young winner Sandy Alcantara will take the mound against Kenta Maeda.
