The Miami Marlins suffered a 15-3 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies Monday night.
Monday Night Woes
The Marlins fell quickly to the Phillies because, well, they struggled mightily to get their bats working.
Sandy Alcantara started on on the mound for the Marlins after pitching nine innings against the Minnesota Twins just six days ago.
In Monday night’s game, he gave up 10 hits in just 4.5 innings and walked off the field with only 4 strikeouts.
The game was quiet through the first two innings, but the Phillies opened things up in the third.
Jake Caves’ solo shot to right field, along with help from Trea Turner, Nick Castellanos and Alec Bohm, put the team up 5-0 in the bottom of the third.

During the top of the fifth, Marlins brought in south paw Devin Smeltzer, but not much changed. The Phillies continued to dominate offensively, bringing the score to 13-0 behind a three-run homer from Bohm in the bottom of the sixth.
Miami managed to put a few points on the board in the top of the seventh, beginning with a solo homerun from Yuli Gurriel.

Phillies pitcher McKinley Moore then walked two, prompting a pitching change from the Phillies, bringing in Andrew Vasquez.
Miami would score two more in the top of the seventh, brining the score to 13-3, but were unable to score again the rest of the night.
The Phillies added two more runs to the board, with a solo shot to center from Brandon Marsh cementing the win.
Looking Ahead
The Marlins are set to face the Phillies Tuesday night for the second game of the three-game series 6:40.
Southpaw Jesus Luzardo will start on the mound for the Marlins and right handed pitcher Aaron Nola will begin the game for the Phillies.
The Marlins will need to get their bats working in order to stand a chance this time around.
