Oak Hall Boys Lax Defeats Tocoi Creek in District Opener

The Oak Hall boys lacrosse team’s dominance continued in its first district game on Thursday. The Eagles took on the Tocoi Creek Toros, who they had beaten just eight days earlier, 15-2. This time, the Eagles came out even more potent, moving on with a 19-0 shutout win.

Keys To Victory

The Eagles didn’t just win, they dominated. The offense showed off its superior stick skills with amazing feeds and ball movement, while the defense showed its physicality, forcing turnovers and getting into clears quickly. The Eagles’ offense looked smooth and prepared, moving the ball quickly and with purpose. They picked on defenders slacking off, constantly finding the open man and peppering shots on goal.

Standouts

The Eagles’ offense is a two-headed beast led by Luke Staab and Pierce Montes. On the year, Staab has 68 goals and 56 assists while Montes has 61 goals and 61 assists. From the faceoff to the final buzzer, it was obvious that the offense runs through the two players. Staab ended up with eight points on the night, recording four goals and four assists. Montes had four points, one goal and three assists. Both showed a sidearm shot that constantly found the corners of the net and also found teammates with impressive passes. Whether it was cross-body, cross-crease, looking or not looking, they would find an open teammate.

Carter Dykes ended the game with a hat trick. Wesley Clark, Colton Keller, eighth grader James Parker and Parker Kohlhaas all had two goals, while Parker added two assists and Kohlhaas had one.

Goalie Tyler Trefzger held the Toros scoreless with the help of the Eagles’ hounding defense. It was the first shutout of the year for Oak Hall. Trefzger ended with three saves.

Up Next

The Eagles hope to continue its strong 16-1 season in the district championship on Thursday, where they play the Trinity Catholic Celtics.
