NFL Fantasy Football Booms and Busts

The new NFL season is officially upon us and that means fans all around the world are participating in fantasy football. There were plenty of predictions on players who would boom and players who would bust. Now, week 1 is over and there were plenty of surprising outcomes.

Fantasy Booms

Dallas Cowboys D/ST – The Dallas defense could not be exposed this past Sunday Night against their Division opponent the Giants. On the first drive, their field goal blocking unit perfectly sliced through the line to block the attempted kick from Graham Gano. The ball ended up in the hands of Cowboys safety Noah Igbinoghene who ran 58 yards for a touchdown. That led to a chain reaction which included seven total sacks, two interceptions (one returned for a TD), five forced fumbles, and zero points allowed. Furthermore, the defense made history for their organization with their largest shutout in team history.

Tyreek Hill and Tua Tagovailoa– This tandem combined to put on a show in Los Angeles against the Chargers on Sunday. Hill was targeted 15 times and had 11 receptions with 215 total receiving yards. Additionally, he added on two touchdowns. Tagovailoa was able to spread the ball out and rack up a total of 466 yards passing to his receivers. He also had a nose for the end zone as he contributed three touchdown passes.

Christian McCaffery– This was the first week 1 game for McCaffery on the San Francisco 49ers since he has been traded from the Panthers last year. He did not disappoint for fantasy owners for he had a field day against the Pittsburgh Steelers defense. As the lead workhorse, he had 22 rushes for 152 yards. Busts

Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase, and Tee Higgins– The Bengals did not have good day this past weekend and that was reflected based off the performance of their QB and top two receivers. Joe Burrow did not go over 100 yards passing as he only threw for 82 yards. Additionally, His star receiver Chase managed only to receive 39 of those yards. Furthermore, receiver Tee Higgins had zero yards on the day.

Next Matchup: Baltimore Ravens (1-0)

Drake London– London had a very disappointing day as the top receiver for his team, only being targeted once during the whole game. He also ended his day with zero yards to the dismay of fantasy owners.

Next Matchup: Green Bay Packers (1-0)

Saquon Barkley– After being shut out by the Dallas defense it is not hard to imagine Barkley having a disappointing night. After only 12 attempts on the night, he rushed for 51 yards.
