Gators Defeat Georgia in Game 2 of SEC Play

The Gators returned to their home court Sunday evening as they faced the Georgia Bulldogs. In a five-set thriller, the No. 3 ranked Florida Gators took the win. This is the Gators second consecutive win of SEC play, after defeating Auburn on Friday night.

The Gators Start Off With a Win

The Bulldogs started off set 1 strong, as they took the lead early, 9-2. The Gators were able to come back during a service run from Trinity Adams. The score came to a tie at 14 all. The Gators were able to use service aces from Elli McKissock and offensive efforts from Kennedy Martin and AC Fitzpatrick to take the lead and eventually win the set with a score of 25-22.

Georgia Takes Set 2

In set two the Gators took the lead earlier on. They held onto this lead for a majority of the set until the score tied at 16 all. From this point on, the score was neck-and-neck as the teams traded points until Georgia was able to secure the win with a close score of 25-22. Notably, Kennedy Muff added two kills of her own this set.

Georgia Takes Set 3

Set 3 also took to a tie at 8-8 until Georgia took a four point lead. The Bulldogs were able to hold onto this lead until the Gators were able to tie it back up at 15-15. From this point, the score was back and forth, until the Bulldogs were able to take a three point run. It was there that Georgia was able to hold onto the lead and eventually take set 3 with a score of 25-22.

The Gators Come Back To Take Set 4

Set 4 also started with a closer score, eventually tying at 8-8. The score stayed close throughout the beginning of the set until the Gators were able to take a four point run to take the 13-9 lead. Georgia came back to meet the Gators with a score of 14-13 and the score stayed close for the entirety of the set. Forcing a fifth set, the Gators were able to take set 4 with a score of 25-23.

Set 5… For The Win

Georgia was able to take the early lead in set 5 with a score of 6-2, forcing the Gators to a timeout. The Gators went on to come back and tie the score back up at 7-7. From here, the Bulldogs held onto the lead with the Gators not far behind.  The Gators took the lead at 11-9 until the Bulldogs came back to take the score to 12-11. The Gators went on to take a three point run for the win. The final score of set 5 was 15-11.

Kennedy Muff had a standout game as she executed 38 assists, 12 digs, six kills and five blocks. Elli McKissock also secured the spot as the sixth player in program history with 1,370 digs. In blocks, Nnedi Okammor secured her career high of 10 blocks.

Catch the Gators back in action Wednesday night, as they host the Texas A&M Aggies at 7 p.m.
