Kirby Smart Previews Georgia Matchup with Vanderbilt

The No.1 Georgia Bulldogs look to continue their reign of dominance when they take on the Vanderbilt Commodores in a Week 7 matchup. Head coach Kirby Smart recapped last week’s performance, and gave his input on Saturday’s game in the SEC teleconference Wednesday.

Let the Good Times Roll

Following a commanding 51-13 win over Kentucky, the Bulldogs have their sights set on another powerhouse performance against Vanderbilt. Similar to last year, Georgia looks to be a strong contender once again to compete for a national championship. The same can’t be said for the Commodores, who are coming off of a 38-14 loss at the hands of the Florida Gators. Despite the loss, Vanderbilt will attempt to earn some much needed momentum on their home turf.

Strength in Numbers

Georgia has no shortage of stars on defense, and are always discovering the next potential star. Linebacker Marvin Jones Jr. has quickly become a diamond in the rough for the Bulldogs season, but is currently in the process of nursing an ankle injury. Jones’ injury history has been the story of his time in Athens, but is hoping to come back at full strength come game time. This weakness might prove beneficial for Vanderbilt, who are currently putting up 29.1 points per game, and hope to find similar success against a defense that is clicking on all cylinders, only averaging 13 points let up across six weeks.

A Silver Lining

Vanderbilt also has a chance to capitalize off of a receiving room that has not yet found its footing. Junior tight end Brock Bowers is having a strong campaign for Georgia, leading all Bulldogs receivers in yards with 545. The closest receiver to those numbers is Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint with 325. The Bulldogs will travel to FirstBank Stadium to take on the Commodores at home. Kickoff is at noon.
